Zombies – Imagine The Swan

imaginetheswan3This is Zombies/not Zombies: the same baroque and melancholy melodicism that was the hallmark of the Zombies’ sound, but the lineup is Argent. The drums pop and hit harder than a Zombies record, and the rhythm is tighter – more hard rock than R&B. But in this case I mean “baroque” literally: a harpsichord in the style of Bach’s “Well Tempered Clavier” is the backbone. Recorded during the final Zombies session, “Imagine The Swan” typifies everything that kept the Zombies from being as popular as they could have been (their eccentric, too-smart musical references), and everything that made them great.
